How to properly cleanse your face

clean your face

Although it’s tempting to fall into bed (foundation and all) after a night of fun, consider this your official reminder to cleanse your face thoroughly before you hit the sheets.

Your cleanser is one of the most important steps in your skincare routine because it also prepares your skin for the next steps in your regimen. Using the wrong cleanser can affect the skin’s delicate moisture barrier, possibly causing future irritation or preventing other products from absorbing effectively. Choose a cleanser that not only removes makeup and grime, but also treats and nourishes your specific skin concerns, with powerful ingredients.

Here are some DOs and DON’Ts to properly cleanse your face and put your freshest face forward. Read the rest of this entry

Learn the spooky truth about your skin’s bacteria

The truth about your Skin’s Bacteria; Dermatologists state that cleansing is the most important part of a skincare regimen, but now there’s visual proof. Scientists at the University of California, San Diego, recently presented a series of 3-D images that revealed the thousands of microbial communities your skin plays host to every day.

This is the first time that the bacteria and molecules on the skin have been mapped out in such detail. Until now, little has been understood about the skin’s microbial ecosystem, and researchers are hoping future studies will further reveal the skin’s role in health and disease. The map also revealed that every person has a unique skin composition that’s affected by the food they eat, the medicine they take and the personal care products they use.

Seeing the maps lit up with bacteria is a good reminder that our skin can benefit from adding a deep-cleaning treatment to our daily Regimen. To purge pores of dead cells, dirt and debris and minimize breakout-inducing excess bacteria, try a Sulfur Wash  and an intensive acne cream.

When it comes to keeping your overall health, mood and memory in tiptop shape, we’ve long known that if you don’t snooze, you lose. Skipping out on Zzzzs can affect your body and mind’s performance from the inside out and the consequences for your skin are no exception. In fact, they go well beyond the telltale dark circles and sleep creases that fade.

A 2015 study partially sponsored by the Sleep School in London, found that missing just 2 hours of sleep for less than a week can spell serious trouble for your complexion, specifically, an increase in wrinkles, bacteria and blemishes. Read the rest of this entry

Manning up to Skincare

manning up

Ever get the sense that today’s men are more forthright than ever about swapping skincare tips and manicure hotspots? You’re not imagining it, they are definitely “Manning up to Skincare”. From “monospacing” to “manscara”, research shows that men are increasingly taking cues from women in the grooming department as they become more invested (and invest more money!) in their overall appearance.

The Marketing company JWT Intelligence recently surveyed 1,000 men in the U.S. and U.K. and found that many are shedding old stereotypes about gender roles and expectations. Read the rest of this entry

Lured by the Lamp!Tanning Beds on College Campuses pose skin cancer risks

Tanning beds on college campuses pose skin cancer risks.

Many parents may not realize that one of the advertised “perks” of some university housing is free access to tanning facilities, but students going after that extra glow in tanning beds could eventually find themselves face to face with a dangerous adversary: skin cancer.

A recent study published in JAMA Dermatology reveals that half of the tops 125 U.S. colleges and universities listed in U.S. News and World Report have indoor tanning facilities either on campus or in nearby residential areas that house students. Read the rest of this entry

Why wear sunscreen everyday? I would ask why not?

Skin cancer rates are on the rise and that in itself is reason enough. Our body needs protection from the harmful UV rays. Wearing sunscreen will also;

  • Help prevent discoloration and brown spots
  • Slow down the development of wrinkled, premature aging skin

Every exposure contributes to possible skin damage so if you think you are safe because you have build up a tan, you are mistaken. Read the rest of this entry

Have you ever gone to bed with your make-up on? Well, you are not alone. I must confess that it has happened to me a few times. After a long exhausting day, you fall like a log into bed without thinking of the risks involved.

Age spots

Are you dealing with age spots? Hands are often the first body parts to give away our age with brown spots, thin wrinkled skin and dryness.
