Today I wanted to discuss 3 mistakes women make when trying to dress their age.
We have the ability to show the world who we are, our personality and all the amazing things we have to contribute.
All this from our fashion sense and the confidence that being well dressed gives us.
Why deprive ourselves of this privilege?
Perception is reality and we can alter people’s perception with our clothing.
Studies have shown that people who are considered better dressed get better jobs, higher paying salaries and are overall treated better.
Our clothes, grooming and appearance is an extension of our personality.
People will judge, it’s human nature. They always have and always will. But we should embrace the fact and use it to our advantage.
We are in control of our image
These are some of the questions I work on with my clients;
- What do you want to say with your clothing?
- Are you representing your true self?
- Are you sure that what you are presenting to others is perceived correctly?
- Can there be a disconnect?
We also go over 3 questions that I help them ask themselves to avoid any fashion “faux-pas”.
- When is the last time you changed your hair – makeup – glasses and wardrobe style?
What you wore 10 or 20 years ago may have made you look amazing, however, fashion styles have changed, so has your body and your lifestyle.
You may have been dressing for clubs and pubs and now you are dressing more for the garden club and PTA
2) Have you considered investing in new undergarments?
You may be wearing the same brand or size that you were wearing 20 years ago but our bodies age and with gravity, quality support is really important.
A bra fitting at least once a year is essential. You will find that most dept. stores provide a free service
Have you considered shape wear? With technology, Shape wear has come a long way. The trick is to try a lot of different brands until you find the one that suits your body and needs.
3) Third
What do you want to accentuate?
What do you want to conceal?
We always want to show our best assets, as we should. If you have beautiful legs or arms, whatever your age, show them off.
Asking your best friend, a saleslady on commission or your mom for advice is not always the best idea. They all look through a different lens that’s why my clients come to me.
As we get older, we also need to invest in quality garments, that have structure with better fabrics, often more expensive. We can no longer just throw on that little flimsy cotton dress and hope for the best.
The way we feel in our clothes and move through life impacts all aspects of our life, the careers we seek, the mates we seek, the friendships.
The adventures and the life we live and how people feel about you
If you think it’s ok to go through life being average, that’s fine
However, I guarantee there will come a time when you will regret not making the effort.
We all have something in common, we want to be acknowledged, liked, have a sense of belonging and getting compliments doesn’t hurt!
Be Fabulous!
