Here we are, the dreaded swimsuit season and we hear that little voice saying in the back of our minds, I should have exercised more ? I don’t know about you but I always had better things to do. ?
We find ourselves very vulnerable with the prospect of flaunting our bodies. So let’s make a splash with confidence!
Here is the good news, we are all in the same boat and there are ways of looking amazing!
I know swimsuit shopping is one of the least appealing things to do; fluorescent lighting, horrific mirrors… As usual, we tend to see our flaws, cellulite, ripples and rolls. Trust me, all you need is a little patience and knowledge to find the right one for your body. When you find a flattering style, cut and color, dive in and purchase two. You won’t regret it, it’s a wise investment. Every Diva needs several swimsuits in her wardrobe.
When purchasing a swimsuit, here are a few factors to consider;
ACTIVITY
- Will you be lounging around the pool with your family
- Or swimming and surfing
- Or perhaps attending a pool party………..
Your activity will determine the style you need.
FABRIC
We have come a long way in terms of fabric, the performance, comfort and durability,
Nylon blends are very common and great if you are very active.
Lycra offers a fantastic elasticity.
Spandex is wonderful for its stretch but is not chlorine resistant. So you will find it mostly in blends. All these fabrics blended are made to help shape, lift, hold or compress with comfort.
FABRICATION
Whatever the price of the garment, it is important to look at the
- stitching
- the lining
- transparency
- the weight of the fabric
- whether the straps are adaptable
- are there inserted cups? If so, can they be replaced if necessary
- If there is any embellishment, how is it sewn? Will it withstand the wear and tear and the washes.
FIT
Our ultimate goal is to feel confident. So what do you want to conceal or to enhance?
There is a solution for everything, let’s just look at a few.
YOU ARE SMALL BUSTED – You may want to add color or detailing to enhance that area
YOU ARE PEAR SHAPED – Put your emphasis on your bust line instead with embellishments to distract from the bottom. A higher cut leg will also make your legs appear longer.
YOU HAVE AN ATHLETIC BUILD – You may want to add details or color blocking to create curves and a more feminine vibe,
TO HIDE YOUR TUMMY – Control panels and tankinis are a great solution. Keep in mind that the more support and lift you give your bust, the slimmer your waist looks.
YOU HAVE A FLAT BOOTY – Use detailing such as color or embellishment such as ruffles. Showing more skin, less coverage also gives more volume to the area.
YOU ARE A PLUS SIZE – You want an attractive but comfortable swimsuit with support. Consider control panels for the tummy area. Angled ruffles, vertical and diagonal lines. A deeper V neck or cut outs will elongate your torso and give a slimmer effect. A higher leg will make your legs appear longer as well.
I would not recommend any of the voluminous skirts that do nothing for the figure except enlarging it.
I hope these tips have helped and this summer, let’s make a splash with confidence!
xoxo
